Humboldt County’s Only Summer Reggae Festival Hits Benbow Lake July 17 & 18
As news spreads about the cancellation of Reggae Rising Music Festival’s Humboldt County permit, the Mateel Community Center, owners/ organizers of Reggae On The River, are now gearing up to present Humboldt’s one and only summer reggae festival on July 17th and 18th at Benbow Lake State Recreation Area in Garberville, CA. Long celebrated as one of the world’s premier showcases of reggae music, Reggae On The River has been an iconic destination for reggae fans for over a quarter century, a tradition which is still running strong today.
Growing from humble grassroots beginnings and blossoming into one of the largest and most renowned festivals in the world, the event endured a forced cancellation in 2007 and revived as a single day celebration in 2008 and 2009. Now making a triumphant return to a 2-day festival for 2010, Mateel Community Center is excited to be gaining major ground in reclaiming the great Reggae On The River tradition and the reggae massive is responding in force.
Though smaller in size, the 26th annual Reggae On The River offers up a better opportunity to soak up the unique Southern Humboldt community vibe while still featuring a top class line-up of reggae and world music artists including Sly & Robbie, Don Carlos, Antibalas, Dezarie, Sugar Minott, Rootz Underground, Sister Carol, Pablo Moses, Ricardo Lemvo & Makina Loca, Fire Pashon, Messenjah Selah, Rob Symeonn, Quinto Sol, Tchiya Amet, and Seed N Soil, plus DJs, 60+ vending booths, a lively kid zone, and so much more.
Tickets are going fast, but are still available online and at the usual Humboldt and Mendocino County outlets. The 2-day festival pass is $85 in advance and single day tickets are $50. Advance tickets are strongly encouraged as this event is likely to sell out. Admission at the gate, if available, will be $90 for the 2-day pass or $55 per day.
Festival camping is still also available at Cook’s Valley Campground and reservations can be made on their website, more information is available on our Camping & Accommodations page.
